New Year celebration of Tharu Community during Maghi (Photo Feature)

Maghe Sankranti which is also known as Maghi is celebrated as New Year by Tharu community of Nepal. It is always celebrated on the 1st day of Magh. Makar Sankranti is the festival of Sun God where  Sun God is the symbol power, divinity and wisdom. All the family members come together and have a big feast for this festival. Tharus of Kailali, Kanchanpur, Banke, Bardiya and Dang districts celebrate Maghi as the New Year. Traditionally, Tharus make plans for the entire year during Maghi.
